I'd actually pay a little extra to get Lion on a read-only USB drive. I've had to reinstall SL a few times (new computers, testing, new hard drive, etc) and reinstalling (heck, even booting) from optical media is painfully slow.

Does anyone know if this update fixes the issue of Office depositing some 'recovered files' in the trash upon every boot? That was sooo annoying. Every time I booted, I'd have to empty the trash. Other people had the same issue, but there wasn't a proper solution. One Microsoft employee just said, 'it's safe to empty your trash.' That's not the solution we're looking for! Why are random files being generated in the trash in the first place?! Sorry. =)

The fact that congress cannot construct a budget is simply a failure of them to perform their duties. Part of the reason is that the motivation to avoid a shutdown isn't great enough, thus I propose a two-fold solution to motivate them a little
1) Congress persons do not get paid during the shutdown. Perhaps if they were to not get paid they would be more motivated.
2) In the event of a shutdown all members of congress immediately become ineligible to run for re-election for their current position and ineligible to run in any other federal election. Since a shutdown means they've failed, they shouldn't be allowed to continue.
I would need to find a cite, but this was actually brought up and was put to vote in one of the houses. Of course it was struck down. I want to say this happened around the last time the government shut down under Clinton.
This has also happened at the state level (here in California anyway) and of course they were still getting paid while they, the Government, continued to work on something they should have done. Amazing, if you or I don't get the job done, we are out of a job.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan but I'll be skipping out on the launch of the 3DS.
As mentioned on this thread, I do agree the launch titles suck.
Next gen pricing also sucks. I'm not going to dish out $250 for a handheld system, sorry. Same thing with software pricing.
I'm sure the 3D effect is awesome, but for some games, like SFIV and Rayman, I'd rather have these on my iPhone for the price of 0.99 to 4.99, despite weaker graphics and lack of 3D. An increase of 800 to 4000% pricing is just ridiculous to me. Plus, i'd rather have games digitally than worry about carrying, storing, (and possibly losing) game cards.

I don't buy it; Apple offers the Apple TV for $99 which provides AirPlay. I don't think they'll license out the software; Apple has too many negative experiences with licensing out software... :cool:

I didn't say it was wholly genetic, nor do the authors of the book to which I linked. However, to accept without question that we inherit a myriad of traits from our parents (hair color, eye color, height, predisposition to certain diseases, the list goes on) but discount intelligence from that group is foolish in the extreme.
Of course intelligence has a genetic element, and not everyone is equal. However, your intellectual potential may be limited by your genes but you need the correct environment to achieve that potential.
Is it that certain races have a lower intelligence? Or is it that certain races don't get the opportunity to achieve their potential due to their environment?
The problem with IQ tests is they depend on culture and education, they are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I bet an IQ test of 10 year olds in down-town Bagdad would yield lower results to a test in a the suburbs of a US or European city. Clearly this is an extreme example, but it is hard to get a level playing field to assess intelligence in different people.

I just got back from buying the last 16GB model in the store. Earlier after reading the article I quickly started calling all the stores in my area and came up empty handed. One of the stores finally said they did and would put it on hold, however upon showing up they admitted they didn't have one and that I should get the 32GB instead...WTF. Finally after returning home and continuing to call stores I found one that was telling the truth, so I grabbed it! Sooo happy!
Now I can start developing my iPhone apps for the iPad to make them universal, my customers will like that very much. Win-Win.

The only way to do it, as far as I know, is to actually go and edit the "Adobe Illustrator Prefs" file (in Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings/en_US) with TextEdit.
Use search to find this line: "/maxRecentFiles 10". Below it you will see a list of the recent file represented in a bunch of characters.
What a mess, eh? So much for including a simple "Clear Menu" command in the application, as every true Mac app does. Windows users seem to have it worse, as they have to modify the registry for this (see (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/458899)).
The funny thing is that Photoshop actually has the "Clear recent" option, but neither Illustrator, InDesign nor Fireworks do.

So? Some words like "Podcast" are adopted from popular culture. I still talk about Walkmans, not "Portable Audio Cassette Decks". Imagine how annoying that would be to say every time?
I can understand why they want to protect the iPod name. That is their name, and that is their product. However, they really should leave "Podcast" alone. Having a "Podcast" is like the ultimate insult to everyone like Creative, Microsoft, etc. The name "Podcast" exists not because people want to leech off of the iPod's popularity, but because of the iPods popularity, and how endeared it is by our culture. These "Podcasts" were created to be downloaded onto iPods so that people can listen. In our society, iPod comes to mind first. Nobody was thinking of creating these audiocasts with the Creative Zen or MS Zune in mind. If they end up on a Zune, that's fine, but the thought was to get their content on iPods, which is really quite a compliment to Apple when you think about it.
Apple should really reconsider their actions.

Umm, no sorry you're way off here. The DirecTV iPad app was developed by DirecTV. Tivo doesn't power D* boxes, the DirecTivo box is still a little ways off.

A very fair point. But even within that (relatively) limited domain, I believe attempting to trademark a 'generic' word (i.e. not an artificial label/title), especially one which was already in common usage in many other companies products is farcical :- to me at least.
To look at a parallel, I think Sony should have fought harder to protect their Walkman moniker, but shouldn't under any circumstances have been given the trademarks "Walk" or "Man". If companies want to protect their trademarks - fine, then they shouldn't choose generic, everyday words. IMO.
So should Apple not have been granted any of their trademarks for use of the word "Apple?"
